Jules and Judy arrived on Tues. September 19th - Skyler's 4th birthday!!
Tues -
We all met at Chevy's for a little dinner party, Andie, Pflash, Ahmee, Baba and Nana and of course Matt, myself and the guest of honor, Skyler. We ate too much Mexican food and opened presents; Skyler got lots of great books and "AWESOME" puzzles (his favorite new word and his new favorite thing to play with). The waiters all came over with cake to sing happy birthday but surprised Skyler by putting a giant sombrero on his head and he started to cry and asked why? He got over it and we all had a great time.
Wed -
On the 20th, Judy's birthday, she came with Skyler and I to Yerba Buena while Jules stayed at the hotel and worked out the recording date he had to fly back to LA for Thurs. It was a perfect sunny warm and very beautiful day. Skyler was walking along the edge of one of the fountains and just as I said "be careful, I don't want to have to jump in and fish you out of that water" he got to the end of the ledge he was walking on, and stepped off right, into the fountain! Fortunately it was only a foot deep but he was just as surprised as Judy and I. He stood there in the water, wet to his knees not knowing what to do next. So we took off his wet shoes, socks and pants and while he and Judy ran around with him in a tee shirt and underwear (classy kid) and played chase I went shopping for some new clothes to put him in. After getting dressed in his new clothes (thanks Old Navy for your cute bargains!) we had some lunch and went over to the carousel were Ahmee and Skyler rode horses - Bullseye and Butterscotch, named by Skyler - we dropped Ahmee back at the hotel and headed home for a nap.
That night, to celebrate Judy's birthday, we dropped Sky off at my mom's and Jules treated us to a fancy dinner at Aqua - delicious, amazing seafood and we all ate until some of us felt sick (me and Jules mostly).
Thurs -
Jules had to leave for his plane to LA in the early afternoon so we all went over to Fisherman's Wharf. We went to the Musée Mécanique; they have all of the old penny arcade games. Jules said that he hadn't seen some of those games since he was a kid. Skyler always loves the crane game and baseball. Those penny games (probably a nickel when Jules was a kid) are now a quarter but still so cool. Then we walked over to pier 39 - it gets more touristy every time I go but Skyler loves it and they have the big sea lions barking and arguing with each other, diving into the water and swimming around - very cute but smelly.
Fri -
Judy came over to our house to play. Skyler and Ahmee played in the backyard, in the sandbox digging for buried Pirate treasure, he was dividing the gold "Two for me and one for you..."when Ahmee said, "that isn't fair" he said "That's how Pirates do it."
Skyler has an easel in his room, one side for drawing pictures and one that is a magnet board with bright letters for spelling out the words he learns. He had cat, sat, bat, wow, how and others already up there and Ahmee asked him if he knew what her name was so she spelled out JUDY and told him that was her name and that Baba's name was JULES. Then he said, "Judy, watch this!" as he did pirouettes in the middle of the living room floor, and then he showed her his break dancing (we have no idea where he learned to break dance).
Saturday -
We all took a walk across the street to Golden Gate Park. We went to the Japanese Tea Garden and strolled around the amazingly beautiful little settings. We stopped in the teahouse where Skyler learned to pour tea. Ahmee and Baba went to the De Young Museum while we went back for naptime. After the museum they came back to our place and Ahmee cooked us a delicious dinner while Skyler and Baba did puzzles and played. Then we said our goodnights and goodbyes. What a wonderful time we had!!
