Skyler's BIG Thanksgiving mistake (and lesson)

The insane Thanksgiving... Benito and Skyler decided to search for the iron, plug it in and set it down on the carpet at Nancy's while she was wrestling with getting her turkey in the oven. They wanted to do an art project that involved heat and she wasn't paying attention when they asked her ("20 times!" according to Benito) so they decided to do it on their own.

Skyler doesn't even know irons or how hot they are... they could have been burned, electrocuted themselves or burned the building down. But they didn't. They burned a spot on the carpet and saw Nancy explode with fury (Nancy doesn't think Sky will ever look her the same again) and me come over and give the big long lecture on all of the horrible things that could have happened (I sounded just like my dad), and "what were you thinking! how could two smart boys do something so stupid!", and "how are we going to be able to trust you guys again?", etc.

They looked like I remember looking and feeling when I was a kid and did something stupid - staring at that one spot on the floor, wondering how long this wrath could go on for and in my case, wondering if it was going to end in me getting a spanking (they may have thought this once or twice themselves) and wishing I could get a redo on that day.

Obviously we all learned some lessons here.

Anyway, that was how our Thanksgiving started - totally insane. But it got better from there and the rest of the day was wonderful with friends (Nancy & kids, Monica & roommates), good food, bouncing babies and fun!

Yep. And two time "Splash Award" winner. Oh, and you can jump up and touch the rope on the garage door too. You couldn't do it last week, now you can. Making us so proud every day. h&k Mom & Dad

Zac is 6 weeks old & smiling and Skyler is the Kissing Bandit!

I went into the office to work today so Zachary went to Nanny Charlotte's and when I got there and picked him up he looked up at me and smiled! She said that he had been a little fussy right before I came and this was a big change - from frowns to a smiling happy to see mommy face! What a sweetie! He's tons of cuddles and still up a couple of times a night for nursing and a diaper change but we're all learning to get back to sleep quickly after that.

Skyler is the Kissing Bandit! He has been kissing girls at school and they told us to have a talk with him. Matt sat him down and explained that it's not okay to kiss people, that it invades their "space" and can make people upset. Poor kid, he's just being sweet (and a flirt) but that is not "acceptable school behavior".

Reading and Kissing

Wow! Skyler, you can read. Yep. You are sounding out words, and you know many words on sight. That's right. This week you came home from school reading. Surprise!

Now the kissing thing. We hear you are the "kissing bandit". As sweet as you may think it is, it is not appropriate behavior at school. We understand the temptation, and you are such an affectionate child, to you it probably is very confusing.

So keep reading, and kissing isnt allowed in school. OK? ;-)

Mommy & Zachary's first walk in the park

Today we got out the jogging stroller and went for a walk in Golden Gate Park. Nearly 6 weeks old and Zac finally got to see the pretty flowers, smell the freshly cut grass, listen to the guys with guitars and watch that roller skaters dance around to DY-NO-MITE 70's disco. All in our own backyard!

Zac's smiliest day yet!

Today Zachary and I sat around my office making faces at each other. This was his smiley-est day so far and the first day that I was able to make him smile and laugh :-) (Matt thinks it was just gas smiles before).

Peabody School

Skyler is loving school and doing great. He had Piano class on Tues. and Drama class yesterday. We had a parent teacher conference and she said he's a terrific kid, very bright and a little on the perfectionist side.

He's also loving his little brother, he gives him hugs and kisses and sits down and holds him. Tonight he was blowing the smell of orange - cranberry bread in Zachary's face and Zachary was sniffing and opening his mouth to taste the smell of the sweet and tangy bread, he looked like he was enjoying it.

One milestone is Skyler being able to turn on the bathroom light by himself without jumping up or standing on tip-toes.

I've been sitting around for hours each day holding my sweet Zachary. How lucky we are, he's so cute and wonderful. He's given me a couple of direct smiles which I am convinced are not just gas but a contented, happy baby.

Sleep is still lacking but snuggling with him is the best. He even slept 4 hours the night before last. He still grunts and coos and makes siren sounds and meows which is very distracting even when I know everything is fine with him the noise makes it hard to sleep.

Kevin & Chris - Are expecting a baby in June!! I'm going to be an AUNT!!

Big brother Sky with 4 week old Zac

Skyler has been wonderful with Zachary, he gives him kisses and hugs, and when we drive in the car and Zac fusses Sky is the best at calming him down by patting him gently or letting him nurse on his finger - lucky baby to have such a loving Big Brother!

Oh, what a sweet little bundle of love we have! Zachary's looking around more and can focus on your face, follow you around a bit and react to noises and singing. But mostly he wants to be held, nursed, cuddled...he's the snuggly-est baby ever, he curls right up next to me and just purrs. He's also the most vocal baby ever with his grunts, barks, meows and squeaks - it's like having a baby animal farm sleeping next to me!
