3 months 3 weeks - Jan. 25th, 2008

Oh - Ho! the next phase is a fun one. Zac has now nearly perfected rolling over and he went from complaining about tummy time to loving it. He can reach out and grab toys (and anything else - watch out!). He loves to smile and laugh and he seems like a happy little soul. He's laying on his stomach, on a blanket right now chewing on a sock like a puppy.

Skyler had miss-match day a school today and wore one argyle sock and one striped one, a plaid shirt and a striped one underneath that, and a spider hat.

It's pouring in SF today - hope you are all happy, healthy and dry!

Skyler observes the world around him...

"Mommy, did you ever notice that the people that bring you your food in a restaurant always walk and move very fast? Even when they have messy hot stuff, like soup, they move really quick but they don't spill"

SCARLET FEVER

Poor Skyler has SCARLET FEVER!! Doesn't that sound like Little House on the Prairie, Pioneer days... something that wiped out entire tribes and towns? Well it did, but now you just take some amoxicillin and your fine. It's strep throat with a rash. But it sounds HORRIBLE and I nearly fell over when the doctor told me!! He feels awful and has been in bed for days now with a fever, but he is getting better and keeping food down so he's on the mend. He's eating alphabet soup and watching Star Wars as we speak.

Zachary has been tested, but so far he just has a bad cold (that's how Sky's started out). Poor sweet smiling, coughing, sneezing baby!

3+ month Zachary update

Zachary is sitting up when we prop him up, he smiles like you wouldn't believe and is talking (baby talk) a lot. He does so much with his hands open, and he reached out and grabbed his little fuzzy frog 2 times the other day. This is the beginning of a whole new Zachary phase (it all goes by so fast!) where he can grab things and hold them. He loves music and singing, and he loves to sway in your arms while you sing (Skyler liked a sharp bounce - pogo rather than waltz). He smiles when you lay him in his crib because he knows you're going to turn on the mobile - he likes the sweet soft songs and stars projected and slowly turning on the ceiling. He's beautiful, absolutely a beautiful shining star.

Skyler the Journalist

Sky took paper, stapled some sheets together and started to draw. He asked me how to spell some words: earthquake, house, police. When he was done writing something on each page he said, "here", and handed it to me. The first page had a small rectangle with a stick figure holding a bat in it. Skyler had written "A bas bol plar ws plaen basbol ahe mst the bol". Each page has a different story with a little picture. The next page is about a star exploding, then page three is "a man dug in hole. a house got built" (he asked me how to spell some of those words). The other pages are about a man catching a baseball, a bad guy broke into a house, there was an earthquake, a tree 'foldaon', the police help a girl... all with a cute picture and spelled as it sounds.

I asked him why he was drawing such scary things and he said "it's the news, this is my magazine". Matt and I said "no more news in the background around him!" But then we took it as an opportunity to talk about scary things that he hears or sees. Some of his news was good, and as Skyler pointed out "some things just happen, like trees falling down in the wind. That's not bad!" I'm going to save his magazine forever :)
