What I was thinking about.

Dad here.

This month you are able to hang from the monkey bars and hold on all by yourself. At the blue park you learned how to slide down the pole, and you can slide down the rails facing forwards and backwards. You climbed a very tricky obstacle where you had to turn around midway, and you can let go from the high bar and drop to the sand below. All very exciting things now that you are getting bigger. All of this makes me very proud of you.

This month you have been doing alot of singing too. I hear you humming songs like "Growing, a little every day" and "Happy Talk" throughout the day. You have also been humming Edvard Grieg. Yes, you like classical and jazz and you know the difference when I ask you "Is this jazz or classical? It is so wonderful. I figure you can learn about rock and pop when you're older.

We all got a cold this month, but mom got it really bad. So sick in fact we had to take her to the hospital one night for an awful earache. Of course this was at 11 pm, and I had to take you to rehearsal with me. You sat behind me and my drums while my band played our songs. Of course I got you ear plugs, but I know it was probably very loud for you. You told me after "I dont want to go to rehearsal anymore daddy." It was very cute, but I understand what you mean.

There was alot of rain this month too, so we took advantage of the Exploratorium alot. And it's always great going to the park with you. Also, your new bike fits you like a charm.

Today? You will be getting a big kids bed with a real twin size mattress. You are already grown out of your toddler bed. You just keep growing bigger and bigger (in all the right ways of course) and smarter and smarter all the time.

Again, this is the most amazing time of our life.

I love you, Dad

Time flies....

We are having fun but I don't get a chance to catch up on our blog - sorry to those of you who are checking in to see what we're up to!

Today we went to Fisherman's Wharf with Nana. We ate crabby cakes, watched a man jungle and do handstands and on our way to the restroom we looked at the sea lions, then we played some arcade games. We had always just let him run through there and with the way those games all flash and light up with sounds Skyler always thought he was actually playing them and had no clue that we should be feeding the machines quarters for the full experience. Until today. Nana broke out the money and bought handfuls of tokens and now Skyler will always know the truth. Oh well, we stretched it out for long enough I guess, time to play like a big boy.

Skyler has a new little friend named Benito. We met them (Mom, Benito & little Zoe) at Ocean beach and now we get together for play dates. Last Thurs. we had Nancy, Benito & Zoe and our other friends Sharon and Brodie over for fun time in the backyard and at the park across the street. Skyler and Benito look like bookends with matching haircuts and similar faces.

It's great to have other mom's to talk to and the kids all have a great time. Friday we took Sharon & Brodie to the Exploratorium until Skyler had the temper tantrum of a lifetime - Actual on the ground kicking his feet and pounding his fists. The things they learn in school! I tell you between that and the various colds he brings home (which we spent most of the last couple of months passing around this house and our friends and families) I can see why people decide to home school! Just kidding, I really do think school is good for him and he's doing well there. He likes the kids and the teachers call him Skyler Smiler and tell me what a polite and sweet little guy he is and were amazed that he could spell his name, count, ABC and the rest. He has a little friend named Patrick and he always comes home with some story about him and some adventure they had. He also fancies and little girl named Alexis and likes to play in the little house with her....

Any advise on how to handle bad dreams would be helpful. Skyler just started having them and I feel so sorry for him. I remember being a little kid and getting terrified at the monsters in the closet- so vivid is that kiddy imagination, it all seemed absolutely possible that a big green monster was in the closet and I remember being convinced that the shape in the corner was a scary clown only to scream for my mom and as soon as the light came on it was clearly just my jacket over the chair and the buttons were the eyes or some other shape-shifting trick of the mind. We have the night light for Skyler's room and I leave his door open a little, but last night around midnight he had one about bears and then at three he screamed for me and said monsters were poking him in the butt. I'll have to get the old dream book out about that one...
