"Why" 'til the cows come home
"Why" is still the big and constant question around here. It's wonderful because it means that he is eager to learn (Why do you ask why so much? "That's how I learn!"). It also makes us think a bit more about how and why we, all of us, say some of the things we say. Matt and I end up saying "it's just an expression" everyday but some are funnier than others.
'Til the cows come home is a good example. Try to explain that to a three year old! "Why DO the cows come home, mommy?", "Umm, because they were tired or being out for the day and everyone needs to come home.", "Mommy, where were they before they came home?"... "It's just an expression sweetie, it means a long time", "Mommy? How long?", "It means a long, LONG time", "Why?"

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : I'm not sure how the expression "'til the cows come home," but I can assure you that they do come home, and every day unless there's some impediment. (The cow in question may be ill, or may be fresh, or may be lost, or may be locked out by some obstacle. If you don't know what a fresh cow is, apply here for information.) ~
