Happy Feet with Aunt Andi!

What a fun day! We went downtown to the Metreon were we met Aunt Andi and she treated us all to a movie. We saw Happy Feet - tap dancing boy penguin saves the penguin colony by making the humans realized they have disrupted their fish food chain by over fishing and polluting while he wins the heart of singing girl penguin - which Skyler loved! The movie is filled with great music and characters and is really cute.

The best part was Skyler and Andi both tap dancing, side-by-side, all the way out of the building and down the street to where we stopped for burgers. Andi takes tap dancing classes so she had no problem keeping up with Skyler who was bopping and shuffling along for the rest of the day!

Day after Turkey Day

Ugh, still feeling puffed up and full (yet managing to pick at bits of leftovers in the fridge) we dragged ourselves to the Exploratorium with Nancy, Benito & Zoey for some runnin' around time. Always a good bet for fun, the place was packed with tourists but we had a great time. They finished the restoration on the Palace of Fine Arts (the beautiful dome) next door so we all walked around the little lake area and visited the ducks.

After nap-time Kim Sipes, our friend from LA, came by for a visit. Nancy and the kids came over and we all pigged out, again, on leftovers. What do they say a symptom of psychosis is? You do the same thing again and again and expect different results? Well, once again, we all over-ate and all felt the pain. Skyler still loved the bread pudding and the mashed potatoes (ok starch boy, eat some turkey).

Gobble Gobble - Turkey Day!

Well, it was your basic good old fun and eating until you feel like you'll be sick feast. Nana came over and we fixed food and we all played games. I explained a little bit of why we have this holiday to Skyler; American Indians lived here, Pilgrims invaded, sharing and being thankful, etc. He loved the bread pudding and the mashed potatoes.

The Sippy Cups show at Bloomingdale's

We went to a special party at the new Bloomingdale's Store downtown on Saturday. Sponsored by Cookie Magazine, they had this wonderful band play called The Sippy Cups http://thesippycups.com/ play in the kid’s dept. We were served fancy peanut butter sandwiches, mini hotdogs, juice boxes and other treats and saw this great band that sings kid's songs play.

Somehow they make the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Ramones songs really sound like they were made for kids. The very psychedelic She's a Rainbow - She comes in colors everywhere, she combs her hair, she's like a rainbow - absolutely sounds like a kids song when this colorful happy band performs it. Emphasizing the "Play" in "Dear Prudence won't you come out to play", Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds sounds like it was written for children when they sing it with exaggerated smiles and pep. They changed the Ramones “I want to be sedated” to “I want to be Elated” and taught them all to pogo. They have original songs that are great too.

They pulled Skyler up to the front, asked him his name, where are you from (he said California) and talked about his fashionable tee-shirt - he red tee with the black bull on the front that Ahmee and Baba brought him back from Spain - he said it was a cow. Skyler got up and danced and jumped around, he learned the "new" dances that they taught them (the Twist, Pogo, etc.) and had a great time. They are playing again in December and we’ll be there, I think Skyler really like live shows!

"Mommy, someday will you marry me?"

"Mommy, someday will you marry me?"

I told him that someday he would find someone really wonderful and kind and funny and smart, and that he would fall in love, and that person would love him too, and they could get married.

Pip Squeak a Go - Go

We went to a fun party at a night club, Pip Squeak a Go - Go, that was just for kids and parents! The Devilettes performed and taught everyone dance moves like the Twist, The Jerk and The Monkey, and then got them all dancing to great old Go-Go music. Skyler was a little shy for the first few minutes, but saw all of the girls and boys dancing then had fun bopping around with them. Then his cutie-pie friend Kai showed up and soon they were both up on stage dancing! When the Devilette's got on stage and performed a couple of numbers Skyler was right in front of the stage gazing up at a cute blond with a big smile and watching her the whole time she bounced and danced around. After their show she came up to him, knelt down and said "Hi! My name is Cherry Bomb, I saw you watching me dance, you are the cutest thing ever!" She asked him what his name was and then said they would have another party soon and asked if he would come the next time. He asked if we could and I said of course we'd be there! He brought home a picture of them and points to Cherry Bomb with a smile.

Sick for Halloween! Booooo!

Booooo - Skyler was sick for Halloween, our little cowboy didn't get to dress up and go trick-or-treating, and he had been practicing his lasso for a couple of weeks and he got really good, but on Halloween I got a call from school to come and pick him up because he had a tummy ache. I carried him out of school and he said he felt sick but that was OK and that we would have fun next Halloween. I put him in the car and he threw up all over the place. Boo, poor little cowboy. The next day he asked me when the next Halloween was and I told him it would be about a year. He said, "Well, we will have candy before that". We did - everyone we know saved some Halloween candy for him, Benito even got a special bag of candy for Skyler while he did his trick-or-treating, what a pal!
