Skyler can ride a bike! No more training wheels!!!

Saturday Skyler and mom went to the Bike Rodeo in the Presideo, the YMCA has 'bike guys' that come out and help parents teach their kids to ride without training wheels. They bring tools, air pumps and extra bike, some without peddles and teach bike safety and show you how the bike works. We meet a bunch of kids and parents from Skyler's school there.

Skyler (who was wobbly on his bike even with training wheels) used one of their bike with no peddles and no training wheels and learned to coast first. He practiced pushing up the slight slope using his legs and the coast down lifting his legs a little and learned balance. Then, after his balance was good, they put him on a bike with peddles and away he went (!) peddling around, up and down the slope and in big circles! All within and hour or two, he went from being unsure of himself on a bike to total control and so much confidence!!

Yippee Skyler!! Such a right-of-passage, he's definitely not a little boy anymore (sniff)!

The next day we went back to the same part of Park Presideo with Matt and Zac, and Sky showed dad how great he was on a bike. Later that afternoon Matt said that he wanted to take Skyler to pick out some break-apart erasers (all of the kids are collecting them, most look like that fake sushi in the windows of restaruants only smaller) as a reward for all of his work and riding and surprised him by taking him to a bike store and buying him a big guy bike and a new helmet.

What a great weekend!!
